🏅RYM Supporters Club Man of the match

Eoin Connolly ❤️🖤🩶🫡

Another important 3 points on the board for the Raven with a confident performance against a much rejuvenated Rooftop side. It was the away side who settled quickest and in the opening 10 minutes controlled the possession and forced us back to defend multiple corners and dangerous free kicks. With our defence standing strong with Duck and Walsh missing nothing that came their way it was against the run of play when we took the lead. A counter attack through Big G who passed to Harro, cut inside 3 men and slipped Rea in behind and his square ball gave McGurk the simplest of tasks to tap home. With both teams now going end to end it was a battle of who could split who's defence and on the 22nd minute with Flanagan winning the ball deep to play into Guthrie, 1st time to C.Newberry who played in McGurk. With his path blocked he flicked the ball around the corner to Harro who smashed home first time for a very welcome 2nd goal. A solid 1st half for the RYM which was sadly tinted with an injury to Big G on the stroke of half time to see him replaced by Connolly. Hopefully a speedy recovery and back in the team soon. 2-0 half time in a tight opening 45 minutes of football.

A few directions in the team talk one of which before the game. An early 3rd goal is vital to controlling this, and can the subs make an impact that shows they should start? Well 30 seconds into the half both questions were answered as a move more or less from kick off found C.Newberry to slip Harro in the channel, as an early cut back looked on he instead took his man on and held up a great cross for Connolly to nod home. Another great move to create the chance. The next 20 mins of the half was a back and forward affair as Rooftop really pushed forward to gain the next goal and but for solid defending from all our back 4 things could have been different. We needed to open up and put the game to bed. A change saw Rodgers replace Jones. With 20 mins to go it was that man Connolly who tucked home well after a through ball from Rea to give us the lead we needed. A change saw Harasim replace Baskin. With Rea causing problems for the away team all day with his relentless runs it was Connolly who really put the game to bed with a flurry of late goals to give him 5 on the day after coming off the bench. His hat trick goal came from a knock down from Duck after a corner and soon after 2 really calm finishes following great work from Rea in midfield. A solid performance from the lads and a massive nod to Rooftop FC and all the lads involved for responding to recent tough times to keep the team going and not only rebuilding but honestly with more games under their belt together will push the club forward. Thanks to all the supporters who came on the day and to our sponsors who keep the club on the pitch. We go again next week with a clash against the league leaders. ❤️🖤🩶 #vivalaraven

🏆 fonacab Craig Stanfield Junior Cup Rd 2

Ravenhill YMFC 4 v 4 Belfast Athletic

(McGurk x2

Montgomery x2)

🏅 Man of the Match sponsored this week by young Roman. - Joe McGurk ❤️🖤🩶🫡

A super opening half saw Big G get off the mark with a snapshot on the turn from 20 yards out, catching the keeper unaware and putting us 1 nil up on 18 mins. 5 mins later though Athletic putting on the pressure won a penalty after we failed to clear a corner. Tucked away 1-1. It didnt take long to see more action though as the RYM responded strongly Flanagan winning the ball deep to play into Guthrie a 1-2 with Newberry then out to Rea. Big Danny slipped a great ball for G in the box to square superbly for debutant McGurk to roll into an empty net. A great back to front goal straight off the training pitch and replicated soon after. As this time Baskin with a great tackle on the edge of the box nicks it to Newberry who again found Rea. Danny this time driving at the defence before slipping McGurk who this time returned the favour to put one on a plate for Big G to get his 2nd. 3-1 half time.

The second half saw Belfast Athletic really push forward as expected, they played some great football in the 1st half and probably felt hard done by being 3-1 down. A substitution saw Rodgers on for Rea. On the 60th minute mark though Athletic pressure paid off with another set piece causing problems and poked home. Sucker punched less than a minute later with a long ball falling between our defence for the away side to equalise and really put the RYM to the test. Could we respond after throwing away a commanding lead? A substitution saw Jones on for Connolly and it didnt take long for that response as 2 mins later after a good passage of play involving Flanagan, Guthrie and Montgomery the ball fell to Harro on the left and he put in a peach of a cross for the impressive McGurk to arrive perfectly and head home. Harasim on for Baskin. The last 15 mins were a nervy affair with both teams having chances but in the 90th minute another sucker punch. We rushed a throw in which got intercepted, a lovely diagonal clipped ball for the away captain to equalise and take us to extra time 4-4. Asked that question, could we respond again?

Extra time both teams looked faded as an ened to end 90 had taken its toll. To penalties it was!!!

Keeper Matty Townsley the hero for Ravenhill YM FC in the shootout with 2 big saves as we win 4-3 on pens. What a game. 👏👏 Best of luck Belfast Athletic rest of their season and well done our lads digging in and deserving of their spot in the 3rd round. ❤️🖤🩶🫡 #vivalaraven

LISNASHARRAGH HIGH SCHOOL MILLENNIUM REUNION MAN OF THE MATCH: Adam Baskin

Saturday 4th October

Ravenhill YM FC 1 vs 1 St Malachys OB (Dowson)

After 3 early chances it was Dowsy who finally put us ahead after rounding the keeper. The rest of the game saw Eoin, Newberry and Dowsy again all pull great saves from the away keeper. Around the 75th minute after a constant half of Ravenhill pressure, Connolly broke into the box. Chopped down while 1 on 1 and for the 3rd time in 3 weeks was denied a penalty. Luckily we've caught all on camera and with the added addition of VEO we can put forward all the wrong calls and clear bias against our club. Fair play to St Malachys who scored a great equaliser in the 92nd minute from a good move.
